How to Find a Synonym Using Microsoft Word 2003 |
|
One of the nicer features of Microsoft Word is the application's built-in thesaurus. In order to use this feature, simply do the following:
1. Select the word you would like to change. For demonstration purposes, we will use the sentence "It was amazing how fast the car went down the street." We will look to change the word "fast". To select the word, either double-click on it or place the cursor at the front of the word and then click and drag your mouse to the end of the word.
2. Now that the word you wish to change is selected, right-click on the word. You will notice it will pull up a menu.
3. Move your mouse over the Synonym choice in the menu.
4. When you move your mouse over the Synonym option you will see a second menu drop down with potential replacement words. In this case the words are: quick, speedy, rapid, swift, express, hasty, high-speed and prompt.
5. To replace the word, simply choose one of the words in the menu by clicking on it. In this case we will use "quick".
6. Notice the word has been changed. The sentence now reads "I was amazed how quick the car went down the street."
