Removing programs from the taskbar in Windows 7

Hundreds of PC users are making the leap to Windows 7 each month, and many are taking advantage of some of the exciting features of Microsoft's new operating system. In another recent training tip, we showed Windows 7 users how to "pin" shortcuts to the taskbar to allow faster access to frequently used programs. In this lesson, we'll show you how to remove a program from the taskbar:

1. The shortcuts are located on the bottom left of the screen beside the Start button.

2. For this example, we will remove the calculator from the bar.

3. Right-click on the calculator icon.

4. You will notice a menu pop up above the icon.

5. The top of the menu shows you which program is open.

6. The bottom choice is to unpin the program from the taskbar.

7. Select "Unpin this program from taskbar".

8. You will notice the program is now gone from your taskbar.
